Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has declared a new minimum monthly pension of N50,000 for retired state officials.
This signifies a substantial rise from the N4,000 allocated to the lowest-paid pensioners in the state for many years, a condition that pensioners have persistently opposed.
The governor declared the augmentation on Friday during a live broadcast on the Hausa show, Taba Kidi Taba Karatu, via Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, Yola, characterising the former minimum pension as an inequity that his administration resolved to rectify.
He stated that the modification signifies his administration’s recognition of the years pensioners dedicated to service, noting that the action corresponds with current initiatives to enhance the living standards of both active and retired employees.
The state head of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mohammed Sali, was unavailable for comment at the time this report was submitted on Friday evening.
Approximately a month prior, he remembered that N4,000 had been the monthly income of the lowest-paid retirees in the state for almost two decades.
