Moorkwap S. Dongshal, the commissioner of police in Taraba State, has tasked police officers with upholding the fundamental principles of the Nigeria Police Force by acting with honesty, professionalism, and discipline when interacting with the people.
At the end of a specific training program for Police Constables in weapon handling and tactical manoeuvres, Dongshal gave the charge on Tuesday in Jalingo.
According to information obtained by 460Play, the training was intended to improve officers’ operational readiness, professionalism, and ability to successfully address new security threats across the nation.
The commissioner exhorted the officers to continue being disciplined, hard-working, and dedicated to carrying out their constitutional duties while praising the participants for their dedication and active participation throughout the exercise.
According to Dongshal, “the acquisition of tactical and operational skills must be complemented by sound judgement, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Additionally, he emphasised how crucial it is to strictly adhere to the Rules of Engagement and pertinent operational guidelines, especially Force Order 237, when conducting police operations.
He contends that the use of force must always be legitimate, necessary, proportionate, and compliant with the established guidelines that control police operations.
In keeping with the Inspector General of Police’s goal, Dongshal reiterated the Taraba State Police Command’s dedication to the ongoing training and retraining of its staff.
He pointed out that the program is a component of larger initiatives to increase the Nigeria Police Force’s operational efficacy, enhance its capacity to safeguard people and property, deter crime, and uphold peace and security.
“The training is in accordance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, regarding the ongoing training and retraining of Nigeria Police Force personnel to strengthen their operational capabilities and ensure that officers are adequately equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to offering Taraba State residents expert, person-centred, and efficient policing services.
