In an effort to bolster local government and traditional institutions in the state, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has authorised the establishment of two new districts in Argungu Local Government Area.
Journalists in Birnin Kebbi were given access to the approval in a statement released by Garba Umar Dutsinmari, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The statement claims that the decision was made in accordance with the Argungu Local Government Council’s resolve to establish further districts inside the local government jurisdiction.
The commissioner said that Darikwai Muhammadu Ibrahim has been appointed as the District Head of the upgraded Gwagwange District, while Alhaji Abubakar Mohammad Mera would lead the newly established Yamman District, which will have its headquarters in Gungu.
He clarified that the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, Sections 10 (A) and (B), which give local governments the authority to establish and upgrade districts, was followed in the creation of the new district and the upgrading of Gwagwange District.
Noting that their nominations were based on merit and track records, Dutsinmari advised the recently appointed district leaders to carry out their duties with discipline, honesty, transparency, and dedication.
Additionally, he gave them the assurance that the state government and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will continue to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities.
