Some South-East leaders have been advised by an Igbo community group in Abuja not to hastily and unconditionally support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election.
In a press release signed by its President-General, Mr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, the socio-cultural group that represents Igbo people in Abuja under the auspices of the Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) declared that it was untrue to say that South-East voters fully supported Tinubu.
“The claim that President Tinubu will sweep all five South-East states in 2027 is totally detached from the current conditions on the ground,” stated Ezenekwe.
The Igbo Community Association FCT wants to correct the public and political establishment about the fact that Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Minister David Umahi, and Governor Hope Uzodimma do not represent the Igbo ethnic group.
Senator Nwebonyi and Uzodimma and Umahi are not Igbo spokespersons. These three are only being dispatched to advocate for Tinubu against Igbo interests. The South-East will not support Tinubu because they believe his administration has failed.
“On behalf of millions of Igbo persons, elected political appointees and members of the ruling party are not authorised to announce a political consensus. A few office holders who want to maintain their favour with the President are using these endorsements as part of their personal political preservation tactics. They don’t accurately represent the South-East region’s actual political position, socioeconomic conditions, or popular attitude.
Instead of trying to exchange the democratic sovereignty of the Igbo electorate for personal gain, the organization asked South-East public officials to concentrate on their constitutional responsibilities, governance, and the immediate economic needs of their constituents.
